East India Travel Overview

India is such a dynamic country that it is impossible to come up with a comprehensive description for it.

Being such a huge country, the governance of India was split into smaller parcels of land, and then broken down further into states, districts and cities.  This has proven to be effective because despite the difficulties of the times, each state has shown improvement in its economic status.

Historical Overview of East India

East India, the focus of this article, is composed of four states and territories.  This area was the capital of the Indian empires that ruled most of India during their prime, such as the Maurya, Singa and Pala empires.  Later on, it was incorporated into the Mughal Empire which was then replaced by the British empire.  After India's independence in 1947, the states chose to join the Indian union. Today, like the rest of India, East India faces problems such as overpopulation and corruption.  It has still been able to make significant economic and social advances.

Economy of East India

Two sources of income drive the economy of East India.  West Bengal and Bihar provide food for India, with rice being the main agricultural product.  Orissa and Jharkhand have huge natural resource deposits that push the industrialization of the state.  The main mined product would be both steel and coal, while there are also small factories that process gas.

Climate of East India

All four states experience hot summers, wet rainy seasons and mild winters.  The climate is classified as humid-subtropical, with extreme temperatures that could reach over 40 deg c.  This hot season lasts from March to June, followed by an extremely wet monsoon season which extends from July to October.  Tourism is encouraged during the months of November to February, as these are the months when the climate is friendly to tourists.

Religion and Tourism in East India

The whole of India has a very colorful background, with religion dictating upon the lives of most of the people.  One could say that the whole country is extremely religious, with several religions that are practiced by the people.  Most people in East India are Hindu.  The Muslims are the next majority, with 30% of the East Indian population practicing the teachings.

Anyone who travels to East India will be able to say that the people are very tolerant of the religious beliefs of others, as each city that is toured would yield more than one temple each, and not all temples would be of the same religion.  Since tourism is also a great source of income for the country, the Indian people are tolerant of tourists, though some temples would prohibit tours within the complexes.  This is rare though, as most temples allow visitors even though they are in active use.
