This is the starting point of the Char Dham Yatra from where the pilgrims go clockwise to the other remaining Dhams. Being situated in a remote location there are a number of frequently asked questions about Yamunotri. Here are some of them answered:

1- What is the Best Route to Reach Yamunotri from Delhi?

Yamunotri Dham is situated at a road distance of 412 km from Delhi with the final road head for Yamunotri in hanuman Chatti and takes almost 11 – 12 hours to complete. Buses and cabs are easily available for Yamunotri from Haridwar / Rishikesh or even from Delhi itself. Road journey is the best and the most convenient ways of travelling to Yamunotri where you will be following the route map of – Delhi – Karnal – Nagthat – Barkot – Syana Chatti – Janki Chatti – Yamunotri.

From Janki Chatti you will be required to trek the remaining 6 kms heading to the temple. You can also choose to go by ponies or dolis.

2- Is the Trekking Route to Yamunotri Safe?

The 6 kms of trekking route is made using cemented pathways with mountain on one side and the river Yamuna on the other side. The cliff side is secured with strong iron railings that ensures the safety of the travellers and pilgrims. The entire trek is very safe and secure and you don’t have to worry about anything during this part of the journey.

3- When Should I Visit Yamunotri?

Yamunotri is one of the remotest Dhams in the Char Dham Yatra circuit and it also experiences a typical Himalayan weather condition. This means that summer months are the most pleasant and comfortable time to visit Yamunotri since the temperature experienced during this time ranges between 10 to 25 degree Celsius. this is one of the most appropriate time to make a journey to this spiritual centre. You can also visit it during the closing ceremony and after the monsoon months from September to November.

4- Which is the Closest Railway Station for Yamunotri?

Rishikesh is the nearest railway station in Yamunotri which is located at a distance of 7.5 hours. You can choose to book your taxi, hail a bus or a cab which will take you to Yamunotri. There are also public buses available that will transfer you to Barkot but not any further. For a more convenient trip experience you should take your private car which will also enable you to explore some nearby places of interest.

5- How Far is Yamunotri from Gangotri?

Gangotri Dham is situated at a distance of 221 km from Yamunotri and can be reached with the help of NH 108. It takes almost 7 hours to cover the journey. The road condition is moderate and should be double checked prior to making the journey from here to Yamunotri.

6- What are Some nearby Places of Interest?

There are some interesting temples of mythical and historical relevance situated in and around Yamunotri like Jnaki Chatti, Saptrishi Kund, Divya Shila, Surya Kund, Hanuman Chatti etc. these are some interesting places where you can visit apart from just the temple of Yamunotri. The region is covered in lush greenery and lets you have a soul rejuvenating journey.

7- Please Tell Me More about the Food and Accommodation Facility in Yamunotri

Yamunotri has a few hotels located in places like Janki Chatti, Syana Chatti, Rana Chatti etc. there are budget hotels and lodges available that offer basic amenities and a comfortable stay option. There are also government guesthouses by GMVN established en route which enables you to stay at a cheaper option as compared to other stay options here. Food in Yamunotri is available in a number of small Dhabas, restaurants and eateries. Remember that you are going to a remote location and you should not be expecting any 5 star or luxurious experience in case of food and accommodation.

8- How Can I Prepare to Cover the Trekking Journey from Janki Chatti to the Temple?

One of the most vital and important tip to keep in mind is that 2 to 3 months prior to the commencement of your Yamunotri Yatra you should indulge in a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise activities like walking, cycling or jogging. The trekking here will take you through an undulating route on a high altitude so if you suffer from vertigo or any such related problems then you should consult your doctor before the journey so that you are well prepared and fit for the journey.

9- Can I Travel Solo to Yamunotri?

Yes. You can definitely travel to Yamunotri in a comfortable and safe manner. Being an important pilgrimage spot this place has a plethora of convenient options to reach the temple. You can hire a cab heading for Janki Chatti from Rishikesh. Here you can choose to stay at a good hotel then complete your darshan either by walking or by ponies or dolis.
