The Reconstruction Work for the holy Udak Kund in Kedarnath Commences

The reconstruction work of Udak Kund which holds magical holy water in Kedarnath Dham has been kick started by Public Works Department (PWD) and DDMA of Uttarakhand State. The water inside this holy Kund is said to hold holy water and is said to possess magical healing powers. This sacred Kund is said to be visited by pilgrims after their Darshan at the main Kedarnath Dham shrine and a dip in here rids them of all their physical and mental pain along with granting moksha. Devotees also carry back some amount of this water back home since it is considered to be extremely holy and blessed.

The district officer of Rudraprayag - Mangesh Ghildiyal has confirmed their efforts put towards the reconstruction of this Kund. He has also mentioned that he is making initiatives towards the reconstruction and revival of all the significant spots around Kedarnath Dham. All the areas will also be duly protected and revived keeping their protection as priority. After this they have also decided to find the mysteriously disappeared Hans Kund which was once a holy Kund where pilgrims used to perform the Pind Daan rituals to their ancestors. This happened during the 2013 unexpected and devastating cloudburst which caused one of the most catastrophic floods in the history of Uttarakhand. During the floods numerous holy sites and places were destroyed which included Kunds like - Retas, Hans, Udak, Amrit and Havan. During the revival stages Uddak Kund and Amrit Kund were relocated and their reconstructions have already started but the remaining 3 Kunds are still to be discovered.

During the devastating catastrophe Udak Kund was completely destroyed and later on a lot of efforts were made to re discover it after which it was finally found. The government immediately started making efforts to complete the reconstruction work of the Kund. PWD has guaranteed that the work will be completed within one and a half week.

The Significance of These Holy Kunds

It is widely believed that during the time of death if the water from any of these holy Kunds are poured down your throat then the person will directly receive their salvation i.e. freedom from the karmic cycle of birth and rebirth. Several years age these Kunds were also known for releasing some amount of mercury. The Pind Daan puja ritual which takes place in Hans Kund is said to hold immense relevance and the significance of Retas Kund lies in the fact that after turning Kamdev to ashes Lord Shiva had put these ashes in this very Kund making it all the more sacred. It is also said that chanting the mantra Om Namah Shivaya near the Kund the water present inside it will start boiling and bubbling.

Ever since the disastrous 2013 flooding of Uttarakhand pilgrims have been deprived of this holy and miraculous water of Udak Kund however, soon due to the efforts taken for its reconstruction devotees will now get an opportunity to relive the holy virtue. Officials working on this project have claimed that the new foundation for the Kund have been improved as an aim of protecting the water which comes out of ancient times. They have employed the use of 300 locally available rocks in its construction and the Kund’s dimensions will measure up to be 4 feet deep and 10 feet wide. This wonderful Kund will now attract all the devotees and pilgrims who had missed out on the opportunity to take home this miraculous holy water.
